My purse is my best friend. I can’t imagine walking out of the house without it (I don’t think I ever have). It comes with me everywhere I go and holds all my essential items that I reach for daily or help someone else in crisis. I know that we women carry our entire world in our purses. It’s unbelievable how much stuff I dig out of my purse when I clean it up every week. I would be devastated if I ever were to lose my purse, it has so many good stuff in there! You should know that your bag is the vehicle by which you can live your life – it is far more than only a place to stash your keys and wallet.
People say that you can discover a lot about women by looking at the contents of their purses. Each item she carries in her purse can tell her story. A single girl’s purse will contain different things and a mom’s handbag can have different things. Although we can have different lifestyles, a few things still are common. Whether you like keeping it light and simple, or you believe in toting half the house, there are 17 things all women should carry in her purse at all times.
1. Nail File
It’s a fact of life that this is the one thing you always wind up asking people if they have but they almost always say no, and picking at rough edges will only drive you to distraction.
2. Elastic Hair Bands/Clutchers
Hair bands or clutchers come to your rescue when you just want to keep your hair off your face. Keep a few elastic hair bands and one hair grasp in your bag always. They’re especially handy when I find myself over heated and need to pull my hair back.
Hide away one or two tampons/pads in the small zipper section of your bag. Not only would these be helpful in an emergency, you can also give to someone who needs it. Sometimes you can forget that it is necessary for your ‘time of the month’ so it is better to prepare it in advance rather than you meet a nasty situation to deal with later. This sanitary napkin may not always be available when you need. And even if I don’t need it, I might run into a lady in the bathroom that does need one. How much is she going to love me when she see that I came prepared?!
As any woman knows, lipstick will help create a beautiful focal point on a woman’s face. Therefore, if you do not have time in the morning to make makeup on your face, lipstick will be the best choice to make you look put-together and glamorous. Colored lips will instantly makes us feel a hundred times more powerful with a single swipe.
5. Makeup Compact
Carry a makeup compact with a good mirror to do touch-ups on the go. If there’s a mirror in the compact, you wouldn’t need to carry a mirror separately. Look fresh through the day with regular touchups. I hate it when there is something in my eye and no mirror in sight. What about checking your teeth after that salad you ate for dinner? I guess you could always ask a stranger if your hair looks okay, but if you’ve got a little mirror you can do it yourself.
6. Lip Balm
I can’t leave home without having a lip balm with me. I can’t stand the feeling of dry lips and I’m sure you ladies don’t like the feeling either. Keep those beautiful lips of your soft, hydrated and moisturized at all times by carrying it in your purse.
7. Travel Size Perfume
Keep those small sample perfume bottles that you get as “gift with purchase” in your bag. Also, don’t forget to treat your bag to a few spritzes so that your bag keeps smelling great just like you.
While it seems like commonsense, when facing with the prospect of needing a pencil or pen, some women dig through their purses just to come up with their eyeliner – a fairly good substitute. I’ve been there, done that. Keep a pen handy in your purse at all times. You never know when you’ll need it or maybe someone else has to borrow it. You’ll save the day!
9. Portable Cell Phone Charger Or Any Other Charger
I’m always on the go and I do use my phone quite often. There’s nothing worse when your battery goes dead at times when you need your phone for something. I always have one in my purse, my car and at work.
10. Hand Sanitizer
I must confess, I carry two different hand sanitizers in my bag. With so many germs around, hand sanitizer is a must have, especially if you are using public transport. Hand sanitizer is one of things every woman should have in her bag because it helps protect her and anyone she meets and makes a contact with from spreading terrible germs. Sometimes, when you go to the grocery store, you are able to grab a cart, which has been used a lot of times and which never wiped down. Other situations are that you count out money or contact someone new and shake his or her hand. For these situations together with many other reasons, you should have hand sanitizer in your purse.
Bad breath is a major put off. Sometimes when you are fasting, dieting, and keeping off food, your breath might smell really bad. Keep a pack of tic tac, gum, or any mouth freshener that could give your breath much-needed freshness. Also, after a meal, you would not want your friends to guess that you had Egg Foo Yung. Bad breath is a turnoff in any situation.
12. Makeup Pouch
Keep a cute and small makeup pouch in your daily purse. This pouch can be loaded with your neutral lipsticks, mascara, eyeliner, oil blotting paper, lip gloss, etc.
13. Ear phones
To pass time if you are waiting endlessly for someone or to avoid a really boring person, plug in the earphones and play your favorite music on your phone or ipod. They also come in handy when you are at gym.
Comb is one of things every woman should have in her handbag because it is a woman’s friend for life. It’s great to tidy up hair, especially for women like me with frizzy hair would understand the importance.
15. Hand Creams/Lotion
One of the first places to show any signs of aging, your hands can easily give the game away if you neglect them. Using a hand cream is the best way to repair and restore damaged hands, ensuring that they not only look younger but feel softer too. Keeping you hands moisturized even in warmer weather is very important. So, why not keep a travel size in your purse.
Deodorant is my lifesaver during long and busy days. I hate running around especially during those hot summer days and feel self conscious about my odor. So I try to keep a baby deodorant in my bag at all times for the moments when I need to freshen up! They are super adorable and useful!
How many times have you taken a headache when going out of the house? Getting headache may put a damper in your whole day. Upon keeping a bottle of aspirin, Tylenol or other pain remedies at hand, you will be able to expel your headache and get back to do everything you want in your whole day.
