beauty favorites July 2016 review

Hello beauties!

Every month, I will be sharing with you my favorite beauty products. I personally love reading blog posts that other bloggers share about their favorite beauty products. So, I got inspired and decided to do a monthly “Current Beauty Favorites” post of my own. Reviews are always so helpful and I like to learn about the product first before buying it. So, let me not waste any more time and share with you the beauty products I loved the most this month.

beauty favorites July 2016 review

1. Dior Addict Lip Glow | $33
Let me start by saying that this is my favorite lip balm!!! The packaging is soooooo cute! The fascinating thing about this lip product is that it works with the chemistry of your lips to create a personalized shade. It does what it says, so the color matches you what ever color you are. It also hydrates my lips with a light weight balm. It has mango butter inside as well as SPF 10 to help protect against the sun. It gives me a natural pink color, but it still looks like I have some color on my lips. It is a bit pricey but with it being Dior this is expected. It is worth the money as there isn’t anything else on the market like this.
You can purchase it at Sephora here

2. Origins Out Of Trouble 10 Minute Face Mask To Rescue Problem Skin | $26
I had high hopes for this mask only because I am a big fan of all of Origins products! So I went into it with high expectations and I was not surprised to find out how much I love this mask! I received a sample size of this face mask and let me tell you, I will be buying a full size very soon. I like the feeling of it on my skin. It felt tingling and refreshed and very easy to remove as well. I use it twice a week and I keep it on my skin for about 10-15min. The mask works quickly to reduce my acne and any other problem areas on my skin. I also recommend for those with sensitive skin too.
You can purchase it at Sephora here

3. Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub Tropical Mango | $7.69
I purchased this scrub at Ulta and I was uber impressed. This product can easily compete with any high-end exfoliators. I picked Tropical Mango because it smells awesome and super delicious. I use it once-twice a week. It exfoliates my entire body without irritating my skin, and my skin feels soft and smooth after I use it. The jar comes in a good-sized container that lasts a long time. All Tree Hut Products are made with Certified Organic Shea Butter and natural extracts. Their products are Paraben Free and DMDM Free, which I love.
You can purchase it at Ulta here

4. Muchi Muchi By Essie | $9
I’ve been looking for the perfect pastel pink and so glad I’ve stumbled across Essie Muchi Muchi. When I put on the first coat I have to say, it looked like strawberry milkshake – such a delicious looking colour! It’s a soft and creamy pink that’s pale yet still vibrant. As with many pale shades it takes a few coats to get the colour – 3 would be the optimum, with 4 the most ideal to hide the nail line if you’re particularly bothered about it. It goes on smoothly and dries very quickly so you can have all the coats done in a matter of minutes and be ready to get on with your day. (Just be warned – as always putting on many layers makes it more sticky and likely to smudge so don’t do anything too nail-intensive right away).
You can purchase it at Essie here

5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo | $23
Every single beauty guru I subscribe to happens to own an Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo, and it can’t be coincidence. I’ve heard several women call it the most reliable brow product available, and now I know why. I’ve been wanting to try Anastasia beauty products for awhile now, so of course the first thing I went for was their brow products. I fell in love with Anastasia’s Brow Powder Duo right away. My brows had never looked so good and the product was a dream to work with. Each compact contains two shades of brow powder, split down the middle. Having a lighter and darker shade in one product makes it easy to customise the look you are trying to achieve. The powder is matte so it blends perfectly with brow hairs. It lasts a really long time without fading or fallout. What can I say, Anastasia Brow Duo is an amazing product.
You can purchase it at Sephora here

6. Estee Lauder Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum | $64
Most of you probably know that most of the skincare products I use are from Estee Lauder. I’m 34 years old and I’m extremely happy with the way my skin. I’ve been using Estee Lauder Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum for over 6 months. It’s lightweight, easily absorbed, and has a gentle scent that fades. The serum is easy to forget once it’s applied–it really does seem to disappear into my skin. Even though Estee Lauder’s website recommends using both day and night, I personally use this serum only at night. My skin is without a doubt more even toned. Areas of discoloration after using this product for over 6 months has faded a good 80%. The results are noticeable and I’m willing to spend $64 because I know that this serum is a holy grain product.
You can purchase it at Estee Lauder here

7. Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel | $22

So, above I reviewed Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo and now it’s time to talk about a Clear Brow Gel. This clear gel comes in a glossy silver tube that looks like a mascara tube. I start by using Brow Powder Duo first followed by a Clear Brow Gel. Both are meant to be together. Even though I use clear gel, Anastasia brow gels are available in various shades. Who knew spending just a few minutes on filling the brows and setting them will bring so much difference to my whole look.
You can purchase it at Sephora here

I would like to add that I actually purchased an Anastasia Brow Kit for $65 – 5 items ($120 value) – that included: Stencils, Brow Powder Duo, Duo Powder Brush #7, Precision Tweezers, and Clear Brow Gel. Anastasia Tweezers are the best tweezers you’ll ever find. They effortless tweeze the finest and smallest hairs straight from the root so no breaking of the hair or skin. I won’t ever buy a different pair again, these are my best friend.

birchbox june 2016 review

Balance Me Congested Skin Serum | Full Size, $30 / Sample Value, $14

I have been using this little gem for the past few weeks and I can literally see it working on my pesky breakouts, just like it says on the packaging it really is a little saviour! This is a super light weight serum that contains spruce knot, eucalyptus and lavender which are natural anti-bacterial and skin soothing treats. It has a really relaxing aromatic smell. The packaging is quite simple yet chic. The beautiful forest green detailing on the packaging instantly makes me think of nature which is closely linked with the special natural ingredients within the products formula and as you can see there are 99% natural origin and is free from nasties which sometimes other products are the main causes of skin breakouts and so on. The sample size will last me for another month or so, and I will definitely be purchasing a full size.

birchbox review june 2016

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask | Full Size, $36 / Sample Value, $4.50

I’m in love with this hair mask! To my surprise, the miracle worker isn’t just for those with damaged hair, it’s also essential for preventing dryness and breakage. Let me tell you, over the next week I experienced hardly any shedding and my ends were less brittle. Best of all, the Briogeo product line caters to a diverse array of hair textures and types. So whether your hair is thin, wavy, curly, coarse, dry, or chemically treated, they have custom blended formulas that address your specific needs. I have short hair (shoulder length), so the sample size last me for about a month (I used it once a week). If you on the hunt for a good hair mask, I would definitely recommend this product!

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow | Full Size, $28 / Sample Value, $4.20

I love, love, love BB creams. It’s definitely a staple in my makeup routine, especially in summertime. So, when I received a sample of Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow, I was in heaven. From the first application, my skin looked luminous without looking glittery. It hasn’t made me breakout or clogged my pores. The yellow undertone corrected most of the redness and diffused spots. When it first comes out of the tube, it looks like a traditional foundation. When blended onto the skin, it actually delivers more of a translucent/light coverage that still corrects uneven skin tone and redness – minus any chalky or heavy appearance. The only minus about this BB cream in my opinion is that it doesn’t include SPF protection, but otherwise is great and I would definitely recommend it to others.

birchbox beauty box review June 2016

The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick – Raisin The Roof | Full Size, $14.95

This is a a smoothie stick that boasts a soft tint and moisturizes lips with a ingredients such as sweet almond oil. I found this to be much more of a chap-stick like quality since the pigmentation is quite light unless you apply with several layers and more pressure. It is very moisturizing and carries a nice sweet scent. This is also a full size product this month. My only suggestion, considering the shade color, is to exfoliate really well before application because any excess skin will be apparent upon application of this lip crayon. I would be interested in trying other shades from this brand.

birchbox beauty box june 2016 review

Whish Shave Crave With Vitamin K | Full Size, $24 / Sample Value, $3.60

I don’t ever use shaving cream on my legs, instead I’ve been using Veet Hair Removal Cream for years now which I love. So, with that said I didn’t try it on my legs. But, I did used it to shave my underarms and my bikini area. Loved the scent and the way my skin felt after shaving, but it’s really nothing special to it. I’m OK sticking with old-fashioned soap.

FREE BONUS ITEM FOR JUNE 2016 BOX

Pixi By Petra Eyeshadow Palette Copper Peach | Retail Value, $12

I have already received this palette last month. You can read my review about this product here. I think it was probably a mix up when putting my products together for this month. And I say that because I picked Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel to include in my June 2016 box. Oh well, things happen.

Overall, I’m really happy with June’s Edition Birchbox and all the beauty products that were picked for me. My June 2016 Box had a value of $53.25, which is AMAZING! The value of all the products was definately well worth the $10 cost of the box. My favorite products were Balance Me Congested Skin Serum and Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask!

bb creams things you need to know

Hello beauties!

BB Cream is an amazing little makeup product. It’s perfect if you want a light finish or are just having a low maintenance kind of day. But the world of BB creams can be confusing. Let’s talk about some of those confusing points so you’re ready to find the perfect BB cream for you.

Learn About BB Creams Before You Shop
What are BB creams actually? They’re considered to be beauty balms and are formulated to perform a lot of different functions in one product. However, what one BB cream does could be different than another. Some of the common things they do is moisturize, correct, offer a bit of tint and give your skin vitamins. They also usually offer sun protection which is a nice feature.

Compare Products
Before you purchase a BB cream, decide what you want it to do. Are you mostly buying it to save you time? In that case, you want it to give you a lot of functions so it can take the place of several products. Maybe you just want it to nurture your skin. If that’s true then you want to shop for a BB cream that’s made of the best ingredients.

Find the Right Shade For You
Just like foundation, you need to test BB creams to see if they work for your skin tone. Try them out on your neck if you can’t test them on your actual face. BB creams often have a smaller line of colors to select from. One color can actually work for a larger range. However, don’t be afraid to return it if it isn’t right for you.

Supplement Other Products In
With BB cream you may need no other products but then again you might. Don’t be afraid to add in other products to give you the finish you want. You may want to add a layer of moisturizing SPF to make sure you’re protected from the sun before you apply BB cream or add a bit of concealer for your dark circles afterward. Customize your routine to work for your skin. You’ll love your BB cream more when you tweak it to work for you.

Don’t Skip Out On The Primer
Primer is still a good idea even though you aren’t wearing foundation. It does the same thing it does when you wear foundation. It gives your skin the even finish you want and extends the wear of the product. You may not need as much primer as you do with foundation since BB cream is sheerer. Some BB creams do have primer built into them so you can skip this step if it does the job efficiently.

Experiment With Application
BB cream can be applied the same way that foundation can. You can use a brush, a sponge or just your fingers. Beauty blenders seem to work really well with BB cream. This’s a matter of personal preference, though. If you’re unsure which you like best, try them all to see.

Gauge The Coverage
After applying your BB cream, look at it closely. Is it enough? You may need to add a bit more if it’s not. It’s true that you can’t expect a BB cream to cover like a foundation but you also don’t want to feel like your skin is bare. Finding the right BB cream can take some trial and error just like with other makeup products.

These’re some informational points to remember when you’re starting to use BB cream. Have you tried BB cream in the past? What’s your favorite brand? Share in the comments section below!

my beauty favorites june 2016

1. Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit | $45
This is my first purchase of a contour kit. I always wanted to learn how to contour and watched so many great tutorials on how to do it, so it was time to buy one. This is an amazing contour kit, that teaches you how to sculpt, shape, and define your features with three shades for defining, bronzing, and highlighting any complexion. It’s great for those who are beginners to contouring (like me). One of the things that I really appreciate about this palette is the equal amount of product distribution between the contour, bronzer and highlighter. The palette also comes with a contour brush which is a plus, and instructions which are so helpful and easy to follow. All the shades in the palette are well-pigmented, blend easily, and have good lasting power. The Contour shade is a cool greyed brown that works really well to add dimension to the face. Bronze is a matte, warm brown shade that may lean slightly orange, depending on your skintone. The Highlight is a warm yellow highlight that is also matte. The shade is very similar to the Banana shade in the Contour Kit by Anastasia Beverly Hill.
You can purchase it at Sephora here

2. CoTZ Face Silky Soft Lightly Tinted Sheer Matte Finish Sunscreen SPF 40 | $19.99
I was given a lot of samples of CoTZ sunscreen by my dermatologist. I didn’t know what to expect, but got so addicted to it instantly. This product is slightly tinted but blends translucent. The slight tint covers a bit of redness and evens out my skin tone. The siliconey feel of the product keeps skin matte, and fills pores for a perfected look to the skin. With skin perfecting qualities and SPF 40, this is kind of a miracle product. I like to use this product when I don’t want to wear any foundation. I have oily skin, so in the summertime I like to stay away from putting a lot of makeup on my face. By the way, CoTZ products use physical protectors for SPF instead of chemical, so they are a healthier choice for skincare.
You can purchase it at Ulta here

3. Shea Moisture 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil | $14.99
It is no secret that coconut oil is a staple in most women’s hair regimen but the big questions is what makes the SheaMoisture coconut oil so special compared to the coconut oil available at your local grocery store? The difference between virgin coconut oil and ordinary coconut oil is in the extraction process. Refined coconut oil is produced from dried coconuts whereas virgin coconut oil is extracted from the fresh meat of the coconut. Processes like quick drying allows the fresh coconut meat to be dried promptly and then mechanically pressed. High heat is also used with refined coconut oil to remove the distinct smell and flavor and sometimes sodium hydroxide is added to prolong shelf life. If you prefer the nutty flavor and smell than virgin, unrefined coconut oil is your best choice. I use the coconut oil for my hair and skin. I apply a generous amount on my scalp and hair, and leave it to hydrate my hair for about an hour. After I wash it off, my hair is smooth, has a nice shine to it, and I have noticed I don’t have split ends any more. I also use the coconut oil on my skin. A little bit goes a long way. The oil is gentle with my skin. It keeps it nice and hydrated. I apply it at night. This product is truly amazing.
You can purchase it at Ulta here

4. Modern Muse Le Rouge By Estee Lauder | $65

I recieved Modern Muse Le Rouge few months back from Estee Lauder as a free gift for purchasing over $45 worth of skincare and makeup products. Some of you may know that Kendall Jenner is now the face of Estee Lauder cosmetics. Her first fragrance campaign for the brand is Estee Lauder Modern Muse Le Rouge Eau de Parfum. If you enjoy the original Estee Lauder Modern Muse Eau de Parfum but want something a little warmer, spicier and edgier then this is one is for you. The scent is fruity floral oriental — feminine, full and daring, but still approachable. It’s light and delightful. It’s fun and youthful but somehow timeless and subtly seductive. As always with Estee Lauder, the perfume has great sillage and longevity.
You can purchase it at Estee Lauder here

5. Coola Classic Sport SPF 50 – Mango | $32
I love Coola sunscreen products and this one was no different. The mango smell of this sunscreen is divine. It is very light and refreshing. It blends and penetrates very well and doesn’t leave a white residue on my skin. It has a SPF 50, which is welcomed compared to many of the other high end sunscreens that have only SPF 30 or 35. I was at the beach at the peak of the sun’s exposure for a few hours and I didn’t get sunburn. Instead, I got a nice color and glow (note, I did not reapply my sunscreen). I definitely love the added benefit that product is mostly organic.
You can purchase it at Birchbox here

6. Double Wear Stay-In-Place High Cover Concealer SPF 35 | $27
I have been looking for a creamy with great coverage concealer like this FOREVER! I love the fact that it’s not a tube, because concealer in a tube almost always smears when I try to take out even the smallest amount. It blends easily and seamlessly into make-up free skin, and crucially, it stays put. I love the fact that it includes SPF 35. You can never have too much sun protection!
You can purchase it at Estee Lauder here

7. Estee Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer | $36
I have been using this product non-stop for the past 2years…it’s the only primer I use and I have come to rely on it’s matte perfecting effect to my makeup. I am someone who has oily skin and this product makes my makeup last all day without creasing or smudging and I still have that airbrushed look without looking caked on. Additionally, as my skin is particularly sensitive, this product is a plus as it does not cause me to breakout, it is non-comedogenic (does not clog my pores).I love this product so much that every-time I’m half way through it, I make sure to purchase another one. I don’t know about other primers, but I can say for sure that this product works excellently well, giving perfect mattifying results even if your using it as a primer for non-estee lauder makeup.
You can purchase it at Estee Lauder here

birchbox may 2016 edition

Hello beauties!

Several months back, I heard of the beauty sample subscription company, Birchbox. I’m not sure why I didn’t immediately sign up – knowing that I love makeup, skincare and hair products, and enjoy receiving beauty products in the mail. But for some odd reason, I decided to pass, until a month ago, when I stumbled on back to back days of some fellow bloggers remarking on how much they love theirs. So I finally signed up and I’m so happy I did!

What Is Birchbox?

Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box that sends a curated box of 5 beauty, grooming, and/or lifestyle samples. All you have to do is sign up, then make sure you fill out your beauty profile, so your first box will be tailored to your preferences (i.e., hair type, skin tone, etc). You can shop your box on your profile page, get free shipping on that month’s sampled brands, and review your products for points—you’ll earn 10 Birchbox Points for each submitted feedback form.

The May 2016 Birchbox theme is “Let’s Take This Party Outside, Shall We?”. The box had colorful paint patches on it.

Now, it’s time to take a peek inside my May 2016 Birchbox Sample Box!

birchbox may 2016 review

Dr. Brant PoreDermabrasion | Full Size, $58 / Sample Value, $7.25

I have always struggled with maintaining my pores on my nose and a few spots on my cheeks. I was excited to get this product because I am always looking for a good solution to my problem. I applied a small amount to damp skin and gently massage it in a circular motion for about a minute. I move it around my face without overdoing. Once I have finished this step, I leave it on my face for a couple of minutes to allow the chemical exfoliants to deeply cleanse my pores. Then I rinse my skin very well to remove every trace of this potent exfoliant. The first thing that I notice is that my skin feels soft, smooth and supple, but not in the least bit stripped. I immediately noticed, even after my first use, was that my congested pores were visibly cleared, and that my skin looked radiant and was silky smooth to the touch. And my pores were less noticeable. I’m going to be using this product once a week until my sample size is empty. Then will make my final decision if it’s worth buying a full size tube.

Burt’s Bees Hibiscus Tinted Lip Balm | Full Size, $7

I don’t wear much makeup when I go to work, so I like to keep my lips fairly natural. It’s a struggle to find a lip product that gives a hint of color without being overpowering, but Burt’s Bees hibiscus tinted lip balm nails it. It’s very creamy, lightweight and moisturizing. I usually don’t like the “sticky” feel of many lipsticks and balms, and this product definitely delivered it. It’s fragrance-free. It’s pretty long lasting with moderate use – I apply it a few times a day. Definitely recommend trying this balm out if you’re a fan of natural, lightweight lip colors!

Coola Classic Sport SPF 50 – Mango | Full Size, $32 / Sample Value, $2.18

I love Coola sunscreen products and this one was no different. The mango smell of this sunscreen is divine. It is very light and refreshing. It blends and penetrates very well and doesn’t leave a white residue on my skin. It has a SPF 50, which is welcomed compared to many of the other high end sunscreens that have only SPF 30 or 35. I was at the beach at the peak of the sun’s exposure for a few hours and I didn’t get sunburn. Instead, I got a nice color and glow (note, I did not reapply my sunscreen). I definitely love the added benefit that product is mostly organic. The sample was very small, so I only was able to use it once. With that said, I will be purchasing a full size.

birchbox may 2016

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle | Full Size, $23.50 / Sample Value, $6

I will start first by telling you how AMAZING this product smells. The scent of vanilla cupcakes is incredible. I used Beauty Protector right after the shower on my damp hair. It did a great job of detangling and conditioning my hair and it didn’t leave a greasy feeling. It felt super moisturized and kept my frizz under control. The sample size will last me for awhile, since I only use four spritzes. I will definitely recommend this product to anyone who loves styling their hair or uses heat on their hair a lot!

Coastal Scents Style Eyes Eyeshadow | Full Size, $12 / Sample Value, $3

I received two shades in a sampler, from the socialEyes palette. My two colors were smoky gray & black. I really liked the color combination that was picked for me since I’m obsessed with smoky eye look. The shadows in general are very smooth and silky and feel nice to apply. I did not notice any creasing so far.

Pixi By Petra Eyeshadow Palette Copper Peach | Retail Value, $12

These colors are fantastic! Not only are they highly pigmented but they blend beautifully and they wear fabulously too. The combination of nude/brown/peach colors look perfect on my olive skin. I’m still playing with colors, creating different looks.

Overall, I’m really happy with May’s Edition Birchbox and all the beauty products that were picked for me. My May 2016 Box had a value of $37.43! The value of all the products was well worth the $10 cost of the box. My favorite product was Coola Classic Sport SPF 50 – Mango! I also loved that they included a couple natural, organic, and ingredient-conscience beauty products like Burt’s Bees Hibiscus Tinted Lip Balm & Coola Classic Sport SPF 50 – Mango.

I also want to bring up Birchbox’s changes to their points system, which I know many of us have enjoyed over the past couple of years.  Here’s the update from Birchbox that came in today via email:
