beauty products you must keep at work

It’s good to keep some beauty products at work. After all, a large percentage of your time is spent there. These beauty products can help you out in an emergency or for a general touch-up throughout your work day. Everyone’s list of beauty products to keep at work may vary a bit. These are the ones I personally keep in my drawer at work.

Mascara is a must on the list of beauty products to keep at work. This is especially true if your eyelashes or pale or wimpy. If you have one of those mornings where you forget to apply mascara, then having it at work this can save the day. If you’re one of those lucky lasses that’s blessed with super thick, long lashes then this may not be a necessity for you. For the rest of us, it’s at the top of the list.

Deodorant is a beauty product that you definitely want to keep at work. Actually, it may fall more along the lines of hygiene products but I don’t think anyone would argue with the importance of it. If you get to work and discover the new brand you’re using isn’t working then having it there can be a lifesaver. You also could be in the spot of discovering that you forgot to wear it at all. Having deodorant at work can save you from embarrassment.

Perfume Or Body Spray
Sometimes you just want something to help you feel fresh. Your favorite perfume or body spray is a good choice for that. A spritz at midday can help you to feel as clean as you did before your workday began. It’s also a nice treat for your senses. Putting a spray of your favorite perfume on is an instant mood lifter.

So you went out with the girls for lunch at your favorite Italian place and now all you can taste is garlic bread. Worse, you’re afraid you’re going to offend others with your garlic breath. Mouthwash can help you out in this situation. It gets rid of the taste and the smell. It also makes you less likely to nibble on snacks during the second half of your day because you won’t want to lose that minty freshness.

Pressed Powder
Pressed powder is a good choice to keep at work. It can handle several skin issues. It’s great for covering up blemishes, touching up your makeup, cutting down on shine or filling in when you didn’t have time for makeup at home. It’s even good at helping you fix your face if something made you cry. It’s a beauty product you don’t want to be without in the workplace.

Lip Balm
We all have our beauty products we absolutely have to have at work and this is one of mine. I can’t imagine going through a work day without lip balm, especially in the winter months. Lip balm has a reserved spot on my desk just like it does my nightstand. If you’re a lip balm junkie then you get this. There’s nothing worse than dry, cracked lips.

Hand Cream Or Lotion
Since I work in the medical office, I always wash my hands. Because of that, my hands get dry, so I always make sure to keep them moisturized. Besides that, I benefit from it to keep my hands looking young. My collection of creams and lotions is pretty big. I need to stop adding to it! What can I say, I’m a lotion hoarder. But then, I’m sure I’m not the only one.

These are 7 beauty products I keep at work. Which are a must for you? Share in the comments section below!

salon perfect shocked

I hope all of you had a great week! We are few days away from July and I just can’t believe that we are six months away from celebrating Christmas, again. I personally can’t wait for the holiday season to arrive, because I’m planning to visit my family in Virginia. I miss them so much! This week has been more of a laid back week. I took couple days off from work to deal with my tooth that was extracted on Friday of last week. I was able to relax and have some “Me Time”. Angelika finished her saxophone lessons. She enjoyed learning how to play a new instrument. It will definitely benefit her in high school.

Today, I’m reviewing Salon Perfect Shocked!

For those who are unaware, Salon Perfect is a division of AII (makers of China Glaze) and their polishes are sold exclusively at Walmart.

On a trip to my local Walmart store this week, I came across an enormous cardboard display the size of a SmartCar full of Salon Perfect polishes. I had never purchased this brand before, so decided to go outside my comfort zone of Essie, OPI, Sally Hansen, Deborah Lippmann, etc…and give it a try. I’m also not into multi-color, glittery nail polishes, so I was really pushing it.

The nail color that stood out the most, was “Shocked”. It’s a mix of blue and pink matte glitters; heavy on the pink. The color reminds me of a strawberry flavor ice cream with blue sprinkles on top. It’s very girly and playful.

The formula of this nail polish is tricky. It’s very consistent, a little thick, so while painting my nails I had to shake the bottle few times to thin it out. I was able to use thinner coats and only did a little dabbing here and there to fill in bare spots. Dry time was less then 10 min, which was amazing. Two coats of Salon Perfect Shocked nail polish, plus a top coat were applied in the photo above.

Unfortunately, by not using a thicker top coat, it lasted for two days with significant chipping. After doubling up on a good thicker top coat the second time, it lasted for about five days. So make sure, if you’ll decide to try this nail polish to double up on a good thicker top coat.

If you like teeny tiny matte, neon glitters, then you’ll probably love these. For me, I think I’ll add this to my oldest daughter’s nail polish collection. She’ll enjoy using it more then I will. They do require a bit of work if you’re a stickler for a super smooth, shiny finish, but I think they’re worth it. For under $4 a bottle, I think they’re a fun choice for summertime if you’re looking for something outside of the norm when it comes to drugstore nail polish.

the shelf life of beauty products

Make-up and beauty products most definitely expire at some point. While much of it does last for several years, there comes a time when it’s past it’s prime and would be better off in the trash than on your face. However, it isn’t always easy to figure out when the time has come. In general, if the product changes texture or color, it’s time to toss it. Likewise, if it has a funky smell, you should get rid of it. In the meantime, here is the expected life span of many of your favorite beauty products.

Powder Makeup
Pretty much anything that is powdery falls into this category. That includes eye shadow, blush, bronzer and pressed face powder. Generally, these are the items that will last the longest so don’t worry if they look like the quantity is far too much to use up before it goes bad. You can expect powdery make-up to last for around two years before it can become a problem.

Mascara And Liner
Eye make-up that is wet has the shortest life span. This is because it’s used near your eyes so the risk of an infection is far greater. When you have mascara or eyeliner that you use regularly, be sure you are replacing it every three months or so. Beyond that time frame, your chances of irritation or a flat out infection are higher. Write the date of purchase on the tube or pencil so you can keep track.

Liquids And Creams
Your liquid foundation and creamy blush and eye shadow products last a surprisingly long time. So don’t worry about scrambling to use them up quickly. You have a full eight months before they belong in the garbage can. If you’re a person who only rarely uses these products, see if you can find them in tiny sizes so you aren’t wasting product or money.

Lip Color
Lipstick is designed to last and it will continue to be good for about one year after you open it. Fortunately for most lipstick wearers, it’s gone long before the 12 month mark, right? If you notice water beads on your product, it’s probably time to get rid of it and choose something new. Some experts suggest keeping your tubes in the fridge to make them last longer. Lip gloss tends to last only about six months as opposed to a year for stick colors.

Nail Polish
Nail polish generally lasts for around one year, but may hang on for two years or more. Again, keeping it in the fridge is said to make it last longer. Using polish past its prime isn’t likely to hurt you, but it gets gloopy and globby and is hard to apply. That means messes, smudges and caked on polish that doesn’t look good. Isn’t it worth it to spend a few bucks and buy something new? I thinks so.

Concealer is a fabulous invention that has saved us all from a blemish nightmare, right? It is perfect for masking discoloration and acne. However, since you do use it on such things, it should be replaced every six months or so to prevent germs and bacteria from worsening breakouts or leading to new problems. Buy tiny tubes if you only use a dab now and then.

A good facial cleanser is ideal for ensuring healthy and lovely skin. Most are good for about one year before they expire. The good news is that if you are washing your face every day like you are supposed to, the cleanser will be gone long before it goes bad.

Sunscreen, perfume and toners are other things that expire after about one year.

Were you surprised to learn that your products aren’t timeless? Don’t worry – your fabulous good looks still are. Which products do you need to toss right now? Share in the comments section below!

essie play date

Another week has passed and another month is almost coming to an end. I hope all of you had a great week! This week has been dragging at work. Weird, because it’s definitely has been busier then last week now that everybody is back from their vacation. Friday, I took a day off to go to an oral surgeon to extract my tooth that was infected. I was terrified, but had my lovely husband there by my side to support me. After all, it wasn’t bad at all. Surgeon and his staff did an amazing job. Angelika is taking saxophone lessons this week. She loves it! Now, she knows how to play on three instruments: guitar, clarinet and saxophone. I’m very proud of her!!!

Today, I’m reviewing Essie Play Date!

Essie Play Date nail polish is 2014’s Most Shared shade on Twitter. It’s a soft lavender that is slightly electrified. It’s very soft and flirty and I think it’s a perfect alternative to the conventional pinks and reds this season.

I am a huge fan of Essie nail polish and always get complements on my nails. Play Date has been a fan favorite among all of my friends. It’s definitely one of my favorite shades from Essie’s Go Overboard collection! Purple nail polish in general is probably my favorite color to wear. It’s is a gorgeous bright pastel purple, unique because it’s a pastel but their is a almost neon factor to it.

Essie has the cutest bottles, square glass embossed with “essie” on 2 sides. They have a white plastic cap, on the shorter side, with a medium-length stem. The brush is petite, thin and flexible. I like Essie’s brush because it makes it easier for me to control & position the polish just where I want it. Play Date’s formula was average, not streaky, and has a bit of that squishy jelly-creme quality that I have come to expect from Essie. It wasn’t super-pigmented but it applied nicely in two thin coats and dried pretty shiny.

One of my favorite things about Essie brand is that it dries pretty quickly. This particular color is thicker than the others, and starts to set FAST. I recommend making sure you have enough on the brush to coat the nail entirely on the first pass. Let it sit a couple minutes before the second coat. If you go back for more without waiting for it to dry a bit, you’re going to gum up the first coat. As long as you work fast with it though, it’s a really pretty purple.

essie play date nails

I have been wearing the Essie Play Date nail polish for 8 days and the color is still very vibrant and shiny. I have not experienced any chipping or peeling or lifting.

I really like this shade. It’s a little bolder than a lot of the lavender shades around so you have that extra pop. Another amazing nail polish for summertime.
