Are you ready for the best tips on becoming a morning person? Even if you’ve tried multiple times to become an early riser, I think these tips will make a big difference! As a former night owl, I know how hard it can be to get up early. As painful as it might seem to wake up early and be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, you can do it! Keep reading for some helpful tips on becoming a morning person and actually like it!

1. Assess Your Sleep
How many hours of sleep are you getting each night? Does it vary depending on your social schedule or what day of the week it is? Take note of what time you go to sleep each night and what time you need to be up by. You might be getting less or even more sleep each night than you think. Before you start putting these tips on becoming a morning person to work, make sure you keep track of your sleeping habits for a few days.

2. Reflect On Your Reasons
Waking up early sometimes requires some motivation. Are you trying to wake up earlier in order to work out or get more things done around your house before you leave? Whatever the reason is, reflect on the reasons why you want to become a morning person so you decrease the temptation to hit the snooze button on your alarm when it goes off. Getting up early and doing things early in the morning means you’ll have that much more time for other fun things once you’re done with the day.

3. Make Over Your Bedroom
In order to become a morning person, it’s essential to create a sleep-friendly environment for yourself. Make over your bedroom so it’s an environment conducive to a good night’s sleep. This means controlling the temperature in your room, 69 degrees Fahrenheit is said to be the ideal temp for sleeping, and make sure the room is dark at night. If you have to, change your curtains or move your bed so there aren’t any outside lights bothering you.

4. Create A Routine
If you find it difficult to wind down and get ready for sleep, try creating a relaxing bedtime routine for yourself. Once you establish a routine, your body will start recognizing it as a sign to start destressing. Try taking a warm bath, lighting a candle, having tea, doing some deep breathing, meditating or writing down your concerns to help clear your mind. Everyone is different so maybe listening to music or stretching are better options to help you relax and get in the mood for bed.

5. Plan Ahead
Another way to make waking up early easier on yourself is to plan ahead. Plan and prepare your breakfast and lunch for the next day the night before, get your workout or work clothes ready and gather your work or school essentials so they’re ready to go in the morning. The same goes for the end of the day. Once you get home, unpack anything you no longer need and replace it with what you need for the next day to save time.

6. Start Slow
You might be tempted to want to wake up super early, but it’s best to take it slow. Try going to bed 10-15 minutes earlier than usual and wake up 10-15 minutes earlier and gradually increase the time. Starting small won’t seem like such a huge change it should be easier to do. Of course, if you’ve been waking up at a certain time for many years, even waking up 5 minutes early will seem like pulling teeth, but it’s totally doable!

7. Eat Protein
Another one of the ways to motivate yourself to become a morning person is to eat a good protein-packed breakfast. Having something delicious to eat once you wake up can help make the task of waking up early a little easier and help keep you going during the day. Try starting off your day with healthy foods like oats, eggs or a green smoothie. You’ll be satisfied and ready to take on the day.

8. Exercise
If you have no problems waking up early but need help staying up, try exercising early in the morning. Not only will you get your workout out of the way, working out will help wake you up mentally and physically. According to a study done by Appalachian State University, exercising in the morning can lower your blood pressure, reduce stress and anxiety and help you sleep better at night.

9. Be Consistent
Last but not least, as hard as it might be, try your best to be consistent in waking up early. This means waking up at the same time each day, even on the weekends and sticking to your new routine. Even if you slip up here or there, keep at it. Changing your sleeping and waking habits will take some time, but you can turn yourself into a morning person if you’re consistent!

There are so many great reasons to become a morning person! Experts found that early risers are more proactive, optimistic and are better organized!
